The Brother DCP-8040 is a full-service digital copier, printer, and scanner. Features and Functionality
This monochrome printer/copier/scanner is able to handle a variety of office needs. The print capabilities are comparable to other printers in its class, with a 2400 x 600 dpi resolution and a speed of up to 21 pages per minute. Black and white copying and scanning can be accessed either by the legal size flatbed glass top on the DCP-8040 or the 50-page automatic document feeder. It copies at up to 21 pages per minute, and copies can be enlarged or reduced to between 400 and 25 percent size. No computer connection is required to access the copier, although a computer connection will allow scans to be sent directly to email or a file server.
The Brother DCP-8040 can be connected directly to users through the standard USB interface, which allows for immediate use. Those who work in a shared office environment can take advantage of the optional Ethernet and external wireless options, which allow the DCP-8040 to connect to multiple users at one time. Security features on the printer also allow shared users to password-protect their documents.
Paper is fed into the DCP-8040 through a 250-sheet paper tray that is adjustable for legal size and letter paper. Like most of the other features of this printer, this is fully upgradeable, and an additional 250-sheet paper tray doubles the input capacity of the machine. A single-sheet bypass allows you to feed in non-standard media (like envelopes, transparencies, and label paper) for more unique printing needs.
Other upgradeable features include the 32MB of memory and the replacement Brother DCP-8040 toner. DCP-8040 toner cartridges come in two sizes: the TN540 provides up to 3,500 pages of use, while the TN570 can yield up to 6,700 pages at a 5 percent coverage rate. Despite its higher cost, the larger-yield DCP-8040 toner cartridge will provide a lower cost per page overall.
