Overview
The Brother MFC-8500 printer is a five-in-one (5-in-1) multifunction center that provides for home, home office, or small office printing, copying, faxing, and scanning needs. A simple to use printer, this machine includes a 250-sheet paper tray, 8MB standard RAM, Parallel and USB connectivity, and a 30-sheet automatic document feeder. With print and copy speeds of 15 pages per minute, it easily meets the majority of home office needs.
Features and Functionality
As a laser printer, the Brother MFC-8500 printer provides clear prints and copies at a rate of up to 15 per minute. It pulls from a 250 sheet paper tray and can be upgraded with an additional 250 sheet paper tray for a total 500 sheet capacity. Pages to be copied, scanned, or faxed can be manually loaded one at a time or they can be placed on the convenient 30 sheet automatic document feeder.
Both printing and copying yield resolutions of up to 600 x 600 dpi, with scan resolutions reaching 300 x 600 (optical) and 9600 x 9600 (interpolated). Copies can be reduced by as much as 50 percent and enlarged up to 200 percent, with the option of making anywhere from 1 to 99 copies at a time.
Scanning can be done directly to the appropriate application with the simple press of a button, and the system is set up to allow for PC faxing to send faxes right from your computer. Connectivity is possible through either Parallel or USB connections and the MFC-8500 is compatible with Window 95, 98, 98SE, Me, NT 4.0, 2000, or XP; as well as Mac OS 8.5-9.2.x and Mac OS X.
Replacement cartridges for Brother MFC-8500 toner are available in two sizes. The regular replacement cartridge (TN430 toner cartridge) will yield about 3,000 pages, while the high-yield Brother MFC-8500 cartridge will produce about 6,000 pages (TN460 toner cartridge). The MFC-8500 also uses the DR400 drum cartridge.
