The Brother MFC-8600 is an all-in-one laser printer that helps improve efficiency in the home, home office, or small business. This one compact machine acts as a printer, copier, scanner, and fax, and it can be used to capture video images. It is compatible with a variety of media, allowing the user to print to letter or legal size paper, label sheets, transparencies, and envelopes at speeds of up to 12 pages per minute. The fax feature is also fast, scanning at two seconds per page and boasting an auto-dial capacity of up to 132 different fax numbers.
Features and Functionality
The appeal of the Brother MFC-8600 printer is its ability to perform multiple functions from one compact machine. This machine prints and copies at speeds of up to 12 pages per minute with a resolution of 600 x600 dpi. Copies can be reduced down to 50 percent or enlarged up to 200 percent in as little as 1 percent increments. The flatbed scanner is able to scan from books and magazines, as well as from unbound documents.
The large-capacity paper tray holds as many as 250 sheets, with the possibility of adding a second 250 sheet tray for a total capacity of 500 sheets. There is also a 30 page auto document feeder that allows for copying/scanning/faxing multiple-page documents without the need to place each individual sheet on the flatbed glass.
It is supported by 4 MB standard memory that can be upgraded to either 12MB or 20MB. Replacement Brother MFC-8600 toner cartridges can vary in output. The lower-yield toner cartridges produce about 3,000 pages with the high-yield cartridges producing as many as 6,000 pages. High-yield Brother MFC-8600 toner cartridges cost more upfront but provide a lower per-document price overall. Use of the TN460 toner cartridge will yield a better value than use of the TN430 toner cartridge.
