The Brother MFC-8640 performs multiple functions to improve the efficiency of any small- or medium- sized office. The monochrome laser printer and copier offers resolution of up to 1200 x1200 dpi and also provides full-color scanning at speeds of 33.6K. At approximately 21” x 18” x 19”, the compact machine prints, copies, scans, and faxes from one convenient location.
Features and Functionality
As an all-in-one, the Brother MFC-8640 provides versatile functionality for the entire small office. Because of its Ethernet interface, multiple users can network to the printer at the same time. The flatbed design allows for users to copy or scan from bound materials one page at a time. In addition, the automatic document feeder makes it possible to set up multiple page documents for copying, scan, or faxing while allowing you to press a button and walk away as the Brother MFC-8640 takes care of the rest.
As many as 99 copies can be made at one time, and they can be reduced down to 25 percent or enlarged to 400 percent. Both print and copy speeds top out at an impressive 21 pages per minute with resolution of up to 1200 x 1200 dpi.
The Brother MFC-8640 can store up to 600 pages of faxes should a paper shortage become an issue. It allows for as many as 340 pre-programmed speed dial numbers. It can also act as a stand-alone fax machine, meaning that it does not need to be connected to a computer to receive transmissions. Scanning can be done on the flatbed glass or via the automatic document feeder with resolutions of up to 600 x 2400 dpi (optical) and 9600 dpi (interpolated). ScanSoft PaperPort SE with OCR software makes scanning compatible for Windows, and Presto! Page Manager does the same for Mac.
High-yield replacement Brother MFC-8640 toner cartridges are available to replace the original toner cartridge. These offer as many as 7,000 sheets per cartridge, which can significantly cut the per-document cost of printing and copying in the office.
